Position Title:     Development Manager, Scripted  

Position Status: Permanent Role

Fremantle are looking for a Development Manager to join our Scripted team on a full-time permanent contract. This highly sought-after opportunity is responsible for the day to day running of Fremantle’s development slate. It is a creative and strategic role that helps to guide and shape ideas into their best possible version for screen, while also being ahead of new ideas and trends for an ever-changing marketplace. Working with the Director of Scripted, the Development Manager is responsible for creating and managing a pipeline of projects that define Fremantle’s brand as a leading drama producer.

About the team:

Fremantle’s Scripted team are a creative and experienced team of drama producers and development executives.  They have experience developing and producing a wide-range of dramas and comedies in Australia and abroad.  The Development Manager would be working at the heart of an inspiring family of creatives, who work hard to tell stories on screen.  They work closely with the very best writers, directors and actors in the country, across a huge variety of shows, and develop ideas for broadcasters all across the globe.

You will get to:

  • Manage the slate - tracking our projects from conception to commission alongside the Development Executives and Director of Scripted.

  • Find and pitch new story material (books, films etc.) to Director of Scripted.

  • Establish, nurture and grow relationships with creatives in our industry including Directors, Writers, Agents and publishers

  • Manage submissions

  • Creative steerage of projects in development

  • Participation in story rooms in development and production

  • Work with our Business Affairs & Finance Teams to ensure contracting and financing is in place.

  • Contribute to development of pitches.

We are looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in the development of a wide range of scripted projects.

  • Experience in giving meaningful notes to writers and other creatives

  • Detailed knowledge of the local and global film and television industry, including financing

  • Working knowledge of production practices.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and industry.

  • Degree level qualification is desirable, but not essential.
